Let your personality shine in your home through photos that tell your story with this simple DIY photo collage tray.
Every home needs photographs to add to personalize a room. I love our family photos and have so many that I can not possibly frame them all. I got creative with other ways to display our family love. I cut out photos of special moments like birthdays, trips and celebrations and glued them to a tray. Then added glossy Modge Podge on top to protect photos when serving drinks and food.
Here is what you need for your revamping your tray:
- wooden tray or old drawer
- sand paper
- glossy spray paint for wood
- Glossy Modge Podge
- foam painting brush
- photos
- painters tape
Instructions:
Sand down your tray or drawer. Wipe down with water and let dry. Once it is dry, wrap any handles that you do not want painted with painters tape. Spray the entire tray with about two coats of paint. Once it is dry remove the painters tape from the handles.
With your foam painting brush, paint a layer of Modge Podge on the bottom of your tray. Layer your pictures on the bottom how you like it. If you are overlapping, you may need to add a touch of Modge Podge to the back of the picture as it acts as the glue. Allow that to dry then put another coat of Modge Podge over the entire bottom of the tray over the pictures (not on the side of the tray- but if you think you will get it on the sides, use the painters tape to tape off the walls of the tray). Allow that layer to dry and then repeat 2 more coats of Modge Podge.

Does the modge podge make it water proof? I'm using an old acrylic tray and eed pointers. I'll be using this as a breakfast in bed tray.

My tray was "waterproof" to an extent. It did form a ring if there is too much condensation. Use a glossy sealer spray on top after the modge podge has dried.
