Traditionally a margarita is made with tequila, triple sec, lime or lemon juice and salt around the rim of a glass, served on the rocks or frozen. But now you can forget the refined sugars in triple sec and extra unwanted calories! Fresh fruit and a bit of honey is all this delicious drink needs.
Margaritas are one of the best cocktail recipes to pair with spicy, salty Mexican food. It just compliments the bold flavors of jalapeno and cilantro and juicy textures so well. Especially when the margarita recipe is made with fresh frozen peaches, making it a “healthier” cocktail with a bit less guilt attached.
So many factors came together to make a peach margarita. First I was having a little play date with the kiddos at my friends house and she was letting me borrow all this gorgeous Mexican dishware for food photography. Her idea! I love that about my friends- they totally help build my creativity and are a part of this blog. I have a small group of girls that I love where we are always bouncing off ideas with each other of delicious foods we love to make. I was telling my friend I want to share some of our favorite healthy Mexican recipes and she pulls out all of these authentic plates, table cloths and margarita glasses!
Then other week, another wonderful friend Christine gave us the most delicious peaches from her yard. It was only fitting that we used them wisely. We enjoyed this fabulous white peach sangria recipe with them. But as I was making this fish ceviche recipe it was only fitting that I paired it with a whole fruit frozen peach margarita! Those peaches were just sitting our freezer begging to be used!
Margaritas can be made with so many various fruits and juice mixtures. But of course I prefer my drink recipes to be made in the most natural form. Use fresh frozen fruit to sweeten a cocktail drink instead of fake hydrogenated corn syrup and sugar for the “healthiest” version. Well, it is about as healthy as one can get when having a cocktail, right? And tequila is actually one of the purest alcohols for the body. Contradictory, right?
No peaches? No problem! Fruits like mango, banana, melon, strawberry, blueberry, mulberry or raspberry are also suitable for margaritas and mojitos. Swap out this peach margarita for a strawberry margarita just by changing up the fruit!
Enjoy a peach margarita made with whole fruits! It is simple and surprisingly still has just the right sweetness needed. This is such an easy margarita recipe – both lighter on sugar and high in flavor!
- 3½ cups frozen diced peaches
- 1 cup crushed ice
- 3 Tablespoons honey
- 2 Tablespoons fresh lime juice
- ½ cup of tequila (good quality!)
- Liquid Stevia drops (optional)
- In a blender, blend together the peaches, honey, lime juice, tequila and ice. Add a few drops of liquid Stevia if you prefer for a sweeter margarita. Serve immediately.
