What looks like tiny baby cabbages, but are actually brussels sprouts, are a vegetable that resemble the flavor of broccoli and cauliflower. They cook beautifully turned into oven-roasted brussels sprouts, baked into brussels sprouts au gratin, cooked into this brussels sprouts salad - and the easiest of them all is cooking brussels sprouts in the air fryer (I use this one)!

Why this recipe works
+Baked not fried in loads of oil - many roasting brussels sprouts recipes and sauteed recipes require lots of oil and butter to prevent the vegetable from sticking to a pan. Air fryer brussels sprouts are made in a non-stick basket that is easy to remove.
+Healthy dish that is low in calories and fat - cooking food in the air fryer helps to keep food healthy, while still giving it a crispy exterior and satisfying texture that is many times achieved in fried and high-fat dishes. The heat stays on low which keeps the oil at a safe temperature, ensuring a healthy meal without trans fats. The bonus is these brussel sprouts have only 81 calories per serving and 4 grams of healthy fat!
+You just got your culinary achievement award - Everything cooks evenly in the air fryer which insures kitchen success at every meal!

How to prepare brussels sprouts for cooking
To prepare brussels sprouts for cooking, first soak the brussels sprouts in lightly salted water for 10-20 minutes. You will need 16 ounces or 1 pound total for this recipe.
Next trim the stem ends of the brussels sprouts, pulling off any yellow outer leaves and if the recipes call for it to be halved or quartered do that. This helps to crisp more of the outside during cooking so the outside and the center are evenly flavored.
Expert Tips

How to make brussels sprouts in the air fryer
Step 1: Soak the brussels sprouts first in lightly salted water for 10-20 minutes. Cut the base or the stem ends of the brussels sprouts, pulling off any yellow outer leaves. Slice each one in half, or see instructions on preparing brussels sprouts.
STEP 2: Transfer the prepared brussels sprouts to a medium bowl and drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder (optional) and mix to coat.
Step 3: Plug in the air fryer and click “Air Fry”, and set the temperature to 380°F (and cook for 15 minutes total), then hit “Start”. It will take a minute or two to heat up. Then it will beep and say to add food. Open the air fryer basket and spread the prepared brussels sprouts on the cooking tray evenly so they do not overlap. Close and the air fryer basket and it will begin its 15 minutes.
Step 4: About 5 minutes before finishing the air fryer will beep to flip food. Check for doneness here, or just open it and give it a little shake to flip the brussels sprouts, close and wait for it to be finished. Some of the exterior may be burnt looking but the inside should be fine. It cooks in about 15 minutes total. Remove and enjoy right away.
