Salads, this on in particular, are packed with vitamin C and this one gets it from orange juice, lime juice, and grapefruit.
It also contains avocado oil, chili powder, salt and pepper, making it a perfect detoxing salad to enjoy as a side or main dish!
This detox salad comes together quickly in as little as 10 minutes! It truly is one of our favorite easy salad recipes so far bursting with juicy flavors just as delicious, if not more as this tomato cucumber mozzarella salad, skinny roasted vegetable quinoa salad, and this kale salad.
There is a similar recipe in my Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Cookbook. In fact, one reader told me on Facebook, that the Quinoa Citrus Salad is his favorite recipe from my cookbook so far and he has made it over 5 times in 2 weeks! That says something, right?
So, I have altered the recipe to be extremely detoxing without grains for a Paleo and Keto-Friendly meal.

If you want to be flexible with different types of salad ingredients, then here are a few substitutions that you can use.
- Lettuce - instead of mixed greens, as shown in the images, you can use romaine lettuce, arugula, spinach, butter lettuce, or chopped baby kale.
- Nuts - Try mixing it up with almond slices or walnuts.
- Add grains - You can also toss in 1-2 2 cups of cooked quinoa or wild rice.
- Meat - feel free to add cooked fish or grilled chicken on top for extra protein.

- First make the salad dressing. In a small bowl, whisk together the orange juice, lime juice, oil, chili powder, salt and pepper.
- Next, assemble the citrus salad. On four plates, evenly divide the greens, orange, grapefruit, avocados, and nuts. Drizzle with the dressing and serve immediately.
About Citrus Vinaigrette Salad Dressing
This citrus salad dressing recipe is by far the BEST citrus dressing that I highly suggest using on all your favorite salads and seafood dishes. It brings out the best flavors without an overload of salt. Lime and chili powder just pair so well together with citrus fruits.
Recipe Tips
I do not suggest making this salad in advance. The avocado is best fresh and the lettuce will get soggy if the dressing is put on too soon. But you can prep this easy salad dressing ahead of time and mix all of the ingredients together right before serving.
Recipe FAQs
Most salads are best made fresh. You can prepare the ingredients like chopping and washing the lettuce in advance. Peel and cut the citrus oranges and grapefruit in advance, and make the salad dressing. But for the best citrus salad wait to assemble it until you are ready to serve. Avocado will darken fast, so cut the avocado and add the salad dressing right when you are about the serve the salad.
Yes! For winter, use blood oranges and for summer use seasonal navel oranges. You can find most citrus fruits year round. Choose seasonal lettuce and fruits for the best flavor.
