When are plums in season?
Plums are in season from summer to early fall (June-September). When juicing them, the juice always tastes best if you can do it when they are in season- creating a fruit juice that is sweeter, more flavorful, and just delicious!

- Fresh is Best. Fresh pressed and homemade juice is always the freshest tasting without much added sugars.
Ingredients
- Fresh ripe plums – for juicing in a blender! Make sure to select plums that are nice and ripe, meaning slightly soft and not hard or bruised.
- Lemon juice – it adds a punch of flavor
- Honey or maple syrup – honey makes this super delicious and slightly preserves it, but if you are vegan you can use maple syrup.
- Fresh ginger - just a little slice adds complimenting flavor and anti-inflammatory agents to this drink.
How to make plum juice
Full ingredients & instructions are in the recipe card below.
Wash The Plums. Start by washing the fresh fruit (you can leave the skin on). Remove the stone from the center and cut into slices.
Blend It. Using a blender add the plums, honey, and lemon juice. Blend on high for about 1 minutes until smooth. Add water to thin it out as needed to desired taste and texture.
Strain the Pulp. Using a strainer or mesh nut bag, strain the juice into a glass bowl. The plum juice will be very thick and you can enjoy it that way or add water to thin it out.
Store it. Using a funnel, pour the juice in a glass jar or juice jug and store in the refrigerator. Serve chilled.
Recommended tools for this recipe
- Blender. You can use a high powered blender, which is an invaluable tool for your kitchen. I use this on in this recipe or you can use a basic one.
- Fine Mesh Strainer. An ideal way to strain the pulp from the peaches is with a fine mesh strainer or you can squeeze it through this nut milk bag.
- Funnel. For pouring the juice into a container to store.
- Juice Jug. For storing your fresh juice.
Substitutions and variations
- Working with ginger. If you happen to not have ginger on-hand you can leave this out, or use ½ teaspoon of ginger powder instead of fresh ginger.
- Plum smoothie alternative! Use frozen plums, or freeze your own then blend in a blender with a splash of water to turn this drink into a smoothie.
Storage
Store your homemade plum juice in a glass container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The sooner it is consumed the better as it starts to loose nutrients the longer it sets out. If settlement occurs, just give it a good shake or mix before drinking.
